WHERE IS GOOD HEALTH PT 1

Is beautiful health all in your mind or what we have been programmed to believe? Is it looking in the mirror? Exercising or over indulging in remedies that are beneficial? Keeping up with our outer appearance instead of our inner child? There are many ways to look at what determines good health and spirituality. But what is good health and spirituality?

Good outer appearance to most people signals strength and good life qualities. Yet is that good health? People worry about having their waste line by summer to fit into that perfect outfit. People often get depressed about themselves because they don’t have an entertainer’s look. Being brainwashed into taking weight loss pills and watching what you put in your body should improve health. Ordering products from infomercials that claim the results will shed pounds in x amount of days. Enhancing your look is fine but is that good health determined by a one sided view.

Finding a reason to take a vacation or attending church seeking a new faith could be better than keeping up with your looks. A change of scenery could visually imprint good vibes in someone and prepare them. For what life brings whether it be good or bad. Providing hope and love when it seems like there is none. Sometimes how you look compared to how you feel can make a big difference. What you put in your system is what you get out. See most people don’t always have control over their physical appearance due to medical problems, deformities and disabilities. So following popular culture and the medical communities standards does not have to apply to setting your own standards of what good health is.

Many of us simply give in to cultural pressure to super size, drive rather than walk, veggie in front of the TV. Still we define health in terms of appearance rather than actual well-being. Doctor’s and pharmaceutical companies every year come up with new pills to take and ways to improve one self. Yet how do they classify good health as in the words of Doctor Kirk “ you can do practically anything if you have energy and the muscular strength to move your body”. But is that good health and improving myself just having more energy day to day. Obviously most doctors don’t see good health as in the eyes of the patient or someone who is suffering. They don’t feel the symptoms of bad health or surgery unless they care which is highly unlikely. Like Quindlen proclaimed “Too often we are treated in hospitals in which no one knows our name’s without checking our charts and we thirst for someone, anyone to see us as more than. A chest x-ray, pelvic, eye, nose, or throat exam. Sometimes the only way to feel better is by taking your health in your hands even when it is not.

A doctor is their only to doctor your up not preach that is a preacher job right. But if spiritual people are better off living because of their belief. Doctor’s and the medical community should also incorporate spirituality in their business. In order to make the patients feel better and decide how to make better health decisions. Because most people know the routines going to the hospital. Long waits in the waiting area, not being properly treated, cases in and out, high bills, minimal health. No real concern shown diet and exercise recommended. Going through all of that can cause a condition to worsen and overall leave them with a bad experience lessening the chances of them getting or feeling better about their situation because no care was shown.

Does believing everything that we cater to serve everybody the same or any good? You hear you can clean certain systems in your body on a juice fast. Extra vitamin c anyone. Say you follow your normal calories a day. Try hard to prevent disease and exercise. Then as the season change and health information. The ways you receive your health news tells what is recommended and needed. So you go on and create a juice fast plan, which ultimately may not improve and condition your trying to better about yourself. Why? An over abundance can cause a situation to worsen. In Doctor Barret words “ large doses of vitamin C can destroy vitamin B in food”. Part of a plan you may keep up with a proper diet( a new you). Which can cause deficiencies in blood. Too much of one can limit the other. Which later he exclaimed, “ If your B12 is destroyed you may develop a dangerous deficiency”. Who would want to worsen their own health without knowing it nobody right. “ In addition excess vitamin C may damage growing bone, produce diarrhea, rebound scurvy in new born infants whose mother’s took such dosage (which could have been prescribed by a health care professional) produce pregnancy defects, cause kidney problems and false urine test for diabetics”. So watching what you put in may not improve my health then what does? I ask myself time and again and maybe it could be the belief system in life.

All in all, good health should not be determined by the standards of the world or medical community. Good health could be classified as morality or spirituality as in the way you treat others. Or take care of your inner self, as Nancy Mair’s said in her essay “Society is no readier to accept crippled ness than it is quicker to accept death, war, sex, sweat or wrinkles”. While most people look over basic necessities of living like walking, talking, having able limbs and being able to get around without harassment and mis- treatment. Some people who have deformities and abnormalities have to maintain a positive outlook. In order to stay strong and well through out their situation. Even though people are often cruel to those less able. Feeling well can be good health in a sense that being around those who support and have love for you and participating in activities that give you inspiration. Such as praying, thinking right, smoking even if it is bad it calms the mind. Which is needed for a good nights rest. Being righteous even when other people are not can be good health and spirituality. Why? Because you can keep up with yourself try to prevent disease of any kind. Internal, bad environment, bad thinking, or even people who may cause your emotions to fall low. Yet even someone who does not believe in God knows. Doing what is right versus doing what is wrong. Makes you feel a lot better. That sounds and feels like good health and spirituality.
