Global Support to Stop The Deporation of Myron Roy

Global Support to Stop The Deporation of Myron Roy
Global

We are friends and colleagues of Hicham Yezza, amongst the thousands of Nottingham University students and staff who have expressed our support for his case, have marched together against his deportation and who continue to fight against his persecution.

Some of us have known him for less than ten weeks, others for more than ten years, but we all have come to appreciate him for the kind, gifted, generous and unique individual he is.

His substantial contributions to our student and local community (whether as an activist, an intellectual, an artist or just a great human being) have been immense and deserve to be recognized and acknowledged.

Our aim is to raise awareness of his current plight and to help him fight his case. Our support for Hich is shared by the majority of Nottingham University members and we hope to succeed in ensuring the University of Nottingham authorities reflect this in their actions and public stances.

We have also gained support from tens of thousands of people from around the globe, including academics, artists, politicians, MPs, activists, community leaders and concerned citizens in the UK and beyond.

We urge you to join us and lend Hich your support.

all i can say is racism is wrong in any way shape or fashion be it physica, mental, sex, race, class, finanicial,or other wise people who use racism as a means to an ends know who they are and should share of themselves and people who are open minded should take that extra step and go that extra mile to get closed small minded people to open up so the world can be a better places because social racism is not cool and should not be tolerated or allowed anymore in america and the world.

Please make your feelings on the issue heard by your faculty rep, or JCR president or any other voting member of the council. This is vital if we wish to be successful in this campaign.

Please find the list of relavant reps on the discussion board.

Many thanks

In response to Robert's comments, I would agree that the Slave Trade is not just a racially driven issue. Cox's comments however were used in a racially inflamatory way, designed to offend black people and not just to make a comment on slavery at large. It is the fact that slavery is conventionally viewed through the sphere of the trans-altlantic slave trade, that was used as the weapon in this incident. It is difficult to argue then that somewhat is not intrinsically racist when such actions are taken. It isn't just that the statement or the "joke" depending on your loose definition of either term, that makes the man morally bankrupt, it is that it was aimed at a percentage of the students that he comes into contact with and represents. Such actions cannot be tolerated by anyone who does have a reverence for humanity and shares the ideals of equality and liberty that I hope for my peers to hold in common.

In a word, Fuck Racism. Don't make sense hating anyone, especially for the colour of their skin or which part of the world they choose to call home

I agree to fight against racism that is the way forward in life. But from my perspective isn't drawing such attention to this exactly what was aimed to do by this guy from nottingham? So really isn't all this playing right into his hands? Why can't we all just ignore the small minded people and come together as one to fight racism. It worries me that one person can stir up so much controversy so easily cos if he can do it another will do the same wouldn't you agree?

yeah the alumni should do something - did you receive the alumni newsletter about how proud the university is about its alumni competing in the Olympics and winning medal? We all need to reply to that and say: Hich Yezza is someone the university should be proud of, for what he has already done, and for his potential of achieving so much more.

count me in.. are you thinking of a separate facebook group? or shall we get some sort of alumni petition going? in any case, we need to keep the letters to the VC and spread the word far and wide about the campaign

I think its about time we put together an Alumni group in support of Hicham and to boycott the university in any shape or form, until they support Hicham in his case. Whos' with me?

the university will not got a single penny from me until it supports hicham, in fact, i will make sure nobody I know applies there until this injustice is resolved..
if there's a move to threaten the rejection of degrees, count me in!
the university needs to understand that this issue will not go away
